Imagine a collection of one hundred fairy tales that each feature a woman doing something amazing, whether it be inventing, protesting, or painting. Now imagine that these stories are true, and each woman has made a significant impact in history. Enter Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, the fastest funded publishing project in the history of Kickstarter. Featuring gorgeous illustrations and easily digestible, one page stories told in “Once upon a time” style, these bedtime friendly tales are a must have for any family. From Frida Kahlo to Simone Biles to Ada Lovelace, extraordinary women past and present are featured, who otherwise may not be noted in everyday history books.
I cannot tell you how excited I was to sell this book to customers when it finally came in. I had had parents for at least six months requesting it before it finally was published outside of Kickstarter, and since its release, I have sold over one hundred copies. Out of all the feminist, inclusive books for children that have been published in the last several years, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is by far the most popular and continues to be one of the best selling children’s books in the store. With the sequel Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2 just released, it is heartening to see so many inclusive histories and biographies at the forefront of children's’ literature. We are beginning to see the voices of those marginalized and written out of history be given their just dues for their contributions to our society.
